If you're like most people, your vehicle's headlights may look a little dirty. Would you need to clean them soon? If so, read on for some helpful tips for Toyota headlight cleaning!
1. Clean Your Headlights Every 3-6 Months
Over time, your Toyota's headlight lenses will get covered in dirt, bugs, and grime. If you neglect to clean them for a lengthy period of time, it can become increasingly difficult to remove the buildup. Also, lenses that are too dirty won't provide enough visibility in the dark.
A good way to maintain your headlights is to clean the lenses every 3-6 months.
2. You Can Use Household Items To Clean Your Headlights
There's a variety of headlight cleaners on the market you can choose from. Yet, there are still simple household items that you can use instead if you're trying to keep costs down.
Note that if there's too much grime buildup on the headlight lenses, household items wouldn't cut it. You'd be better off using a quality headlight cleaner.
Here are some household items you can use to clean your headlight lens:
Toothpaste is one of the best ways to buff out minor scratches on plastic surfaces without having to spend too much money on a specialized cleaner. It's because toothpaste comes with an abrasive element that will help you scrub off the grime.
Use a microfiber cloth or sponge and liberally rub the toothpaste into the plastic headlight lenses. Only use the regular white toothpaste, not the gel kind. After it begins to foam, scrub it off and then repeat if necessary. Once most or all of the grime is gone, rinse it off with warm water.
Rubbing alcohol is another great remedy for removing dirt and grime from headlights. It's also effective in treating yellowed headlights.
First, wash your headlights with soap and water. Next, wet a cloth with rubbing alcohol. Be sure to waddle it up beforehand to make sure you can apply even pressure over the entire headlight lens surface area. Rub the headlights with the rubbing alcohol in a circular motion until the grime is gone. Finally, rinse off the headlights with warm water.
To remove built-up gunk on your headlights, fill a spray bottle halfway with vinegar and then fill up the rest with water. Shake up the bottle and then spray the mixture onto your headlights. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then use a soft cloth or paper towel to wipe it away.
If the grime is too stubborn, you can enlist the help of baking soda. It can be quite effective because baking soda provides an abrasive element. Create a paste with baking soda and vinegar and then gently polish the headlights with it.
