Replacing Your Engine Air Filter

Filter replacingEssentially, the process involves removing the air intake box cover, pulling out the old filter, and then putting in the new filter. The location of the air intake box varies between Toyota models. For example, the air intake box is located to the right of the engine in a 2015 Toyota Highlander, and in some other Toyota models, you can find it at the left of the engine. The air intake box is pretty easy to spot. It’s a square-shaped black rectangular box.

Here’s a general overview of how to replace the engine air filter in your Toyota:

  1. Open the hood and then prop it up.
  2. Find the air intake box.
  3. Unfasten the clips holding the air intake box cover in place.
  4. Unbolt any bolts holding the air intake box in place. (If there are no bolts, skip this step.)
  5. Open the air intake box cover.
  6. Pull out the old air filter.
  7. Put the in new air filter.
  8. Put the air intake box cover back on and then clip/bolt it in place.
