Winter driving can be dangerous. There are all sorts of hazards that can cause accidents.

Before you hit the roads this winter, follow these important winter driving tips.

  • Drive Slow – When there is snow and ice on the ground, it’s easy to lose control of your vehicle. To protect yourself and those around you, drive under the speed limit.
  • Keep a Safe Distance – Keep a few car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you. It will help you avoid a front-end collision.
  • Use an Ice Scraper – It’s important to be able to see through your windows. Always get the snow and ice off of your vehicle before driving. That includes the roof of your vehicle.
  • Buy Snow Tires – Snow tires improve traction and enhance drivability. They’re a must if you live in an area that gets pounded by snow. If you can’t afford snow tires, consider buying two snow tires for the wheels powered by the engine.
  • Fill Up Windshield Washer Fluid – Washer fluid keeps your windshield clear of snow, dirt, and road salt. Consider keeping a jug in your trunk to refill as needed.
  • Use Sandbags for Rear Wheel Drive Vehicles – Adding a sandbag or two for rear-wheel driving vehicles helps to improve traction.
  • Avoid Night Driving – During the winter, it’s important to avoid driving at night. It’s harder to see at night and there’s a possibility that there’s ice on the road.
  • Get Car Repairs ASAP – Don’t sit on car repairs during the winter. You don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road when it’s freezing outside. Go to an expert mechanic that knows your vehicle. If you own a Toyota, consider using Toyota OEM parts because they’re reliable.
