The Toyota Highlander has been a top seller for Toyota in the mid-size crossover segment. This new version is expected to continue to meet consumer’s storage/space needs while delivering great fuel economy.

With the third-generation model, Toyota has decided to offer three different powertrain options including a base 2.7-L 4cyl with a six-speed automatic. There will also be a 3.5-L V-6 with the same transmission which can be front or all-wheel-drive. Lastly, a Hybrid will be offered with an all-wheel-drive, electronic motor mated 3.5-L V-6 with a continuously variable transmission.

The exterior is much more crisp and tighter than previous versions. It is also a bit larger than previous models with about 3 inches of added length. It is also an 1 1/2″ wider. Interestingly, the roof line is lower even with the added dimensions.

This extra length and width translates into better seating and more room for fitting eight people in it. This should quiet the criticism previous models have received for not comfortably seating more than four.

Also new in this model include interior upgrades like touch-point padding, standard Bluetooth and a backup camera.
